Title Article about document signed by Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis
Object Name Newspaper
Scope & Content This article which appeared in the December 15, 2005 Nassau Neighbors section of the Florida Times- Union tells the story of an AIMH exhibit of the only document signed by both Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis. The 1865 document gave Baptist minister Thomas Cox Teasdale permission to sell southern cotton to northern buyers. The proceeds would be used to start an orphanage for white children orphaned by the war. Jim Longacre arranged for the display of the document as well as doing extensive research to give it context. The document is the possession of Gil Colgate of the Colgate-Plumulose Company.
