Subject:
Our Darling Old ?? Boy:
I have not time to write you a long letter. Mr. Dozier got out lost work and had nearly caught up with the worth of the office but on Monday he had to go home again and has been there all this week, so we are pretty well pushed up with our work.
I wrote to Mr. Cooper M. C. and enclose his reply, I also enclose Cat. of the Naval Academy. On of the difficulties with your physical examination I fear is "impediment of speech" but I hope your throat will get all right before them, it will be well for you to practice talking so as to (p.2) overcome this trouble as much as possible. Some of the examination will be pretty hard on you, read the requirements over very carefully several times when you can decide whether you think you can master all that is required.
I do wish you boys could have been at the wedding, It was a beautiful wedding, both the girls very pretty. but then we cannot do all we want in this world.
There is a great deal of sickness at home. Mr. and Mrs. Wolfe and one of the twins, Dr. and Mrs. Palmer and a host of others are sick but we are all well now, though Mama & Lucy are pretty well tired out. (p.3)
We were glad to hear you are getting along so well with your studies. I know after so long away from your books it is not easy to take hold and do your very best at first, but as your mind becomes more trained from study I expect you will beat all the boys in most of your studies. Anyway we know you will do your best and when that is done no more can be expected. Mrs. Dozier Gilbert & Wm. were glad to hear from you and send their regards.
With a great deal of love to our darling boy.
Affectionately
Papa
