Object Name Bill of Sale
Scope & Content A witnessed and recorded bill of sale of 24 slaves owned by Douglas Dummett to satisfy, in part, a debt owned to Joseph Lawson, surviving partner of the firm J & C Lawton. The sale was conducted and recorded by St. Johns' Count Sheriff, Francis P. Ferriera, by order of the Circuit Court of Florida dated 09/03/1845. The 24 slaves were sold in St. Augustine to the highest bidder, George Center, for the sum of $7,180.
