Gift of historical photos of Sheriff R. A. (Robert Anthony) Adams - Letter

A letter written by Barbara and Richard "Beau" Adams. Beau is the grandson of Sheriff R. A. Adams. R. A. Adams and his family lived in the Jail from 1949 to 1953. Beau Adams remembers visiting them at the Jail. The family grew vegetables and Dessie (R. A.'s wife) prepared the meals and fed everyone. Dessie and daughter Norma were locked up in a jail cell by an inmate who escaped (briefly). Beau considered his grandfather to be the "bravest man he had ever met.....just like John Wayne). The photos and memories included in this gift record events in the Nassau County Jail that later became the Amelia Island Museum of History.
