Description |
Gold button with the inscription "Benedict & Coe Treble Gilt." According to internet research it is a Golden Age Gilt button. Five grains of gold per gross of buttons was added toa mixture of mercury and then brushed on the brass buttons which were then cooked in a furnace. Using this method, buttons could be guilt, double gilt or triple guilt. |
