1. Meeting announcement for 13 Jan. 1986 with speakers Ken Hardin and Father Philip Gagan who will talk about the Santa Maria Mission Site and its archaeological significance. 2. Minutes of Quarterly Meeting held 7 January 1986. Hal Belcher reported on cemetery project; mapping of old part underway and volunteers are needed. Mary Holt Boswell requested assistance needed for New England Aquarium's Right Whale project. Susan McCranie requested volunteers for the Florida Museum of Transportation and History. Program speakers were Becky Saunders, of Piper Archeological Research, and Father Gagan who addressed Church History. A map of the Missions of La Florida was included. 3. Sign up list for cookie donations for Historical Meetings. 4. Letter to Members from Pep Whitfield dated 18 June 1986 announcing upcoming meeting with presentation by Gary Marmino, Executive Director of the Florida Historical Society. 5. Announcement of tour to White Oak Plantation, St. Simons and Sea Islands (GA) on 19 July 1986. 6. Letter to Members from Pep Whitfield dated 16 Sept. June 1986 announcing upcoming meeting with presentation by George Davis entitled "Centre Street--One Hundred and Thirty Years of Change." 8. Letter to Members from Pep Whitfield dated 28 March 1986. April meeting will beheld April 7th at First Presbyterian Church (to avoid conflict with opening night of Women's Tennis Association Tournament at the Plantation. Program will be discussion of life of General Clinch followed by a presentation on The History and Significance of Fort Clinch. Mary Agnes White will no longer act as Tour Guide for our Society. Tours are not only interesting, they are most of our income. Candlelight Tour of Fort Clinch scheduled for May 3rd. Request for accommodations for 16 students who will be coming for eight weeks to help excavate the Santa Maria Mission ruins on the property of Dr. and Mrs. George Dorion. Contact Helen Litrico. 9. Handwritten Minutes of Quarterly Meeting held 14 July 1986. Hal Belcher gave Bosque Bello and requested volunteers. President Whitfield reminded members of St. Simons-Sea Island trip on July 19. Lynn Dresher announced formation of a new organization of organizations: Art Alliance. Speaker was Dr. Gary Marmino, Executive Director of the Florida Historical Society who spoke in events in 1886 in Florida and in Fernandina. Marimino offered to host a tour of Ebo [Ybor] City in Tampa. 10. Typewritten copy of #9. 11. Minutes of Quarterly Meeting held 6 October 1986. Mrs.. Angel Davis was recognized on the occasion of her 94th birthday. Clarence and Doris Chappelle, from St. George Episcopal Church of Fort George Island , requested support in their bid for a grant to repairs termite damage at the Church. Plans for trip to Ybor City with Dr. Marmino were presented. George Davis, a native son, shared his collection of enlarged photos and personal commentary on130 years of changes on Centre Street. His summary: Fire, Stucco and Stupidity. 12. Letter to The Theosophical Society in America afrom Harold J. Belcher, Chair of Bosque Bello Cemetery Committee. Belcher requests information about Mrs. Ada Augusta Bergath who is buried in Bosque Bello. 13. Letter to Member from Pep Whitfield dated 28 March 1986 announcing April meeting to be held April 7th. Date change due to opening night of Women's Tennis Association Tournament at the Plantation. Program will be discussion at Life of General Clinch and presentation of History and Significance of Fort Clinch. Mary Agnes White will no longer act a Tour Guide for the Society. Tours are the source of most of the Society's income. Accommodations needed for students coming to work on further excavation of the Santa Maria Mission ruins located on the property of Dr. and Mrs. George Dorion. |
