1. Letter to Members from Pep Whitfield dated 5 Jan. 1987 announcing upcoming meeting (January 12) with presentation by Amy Knowlton: "The Right Whale, A Mammal of Great Significance in the Amelia Island Area." Also announcing spring trip to Eufaula, AL. 2. Letter to Members from Pep Whitfield dated 5 Mar. 1987 announcing upcoming meeting (April 6) with presentation by Becky Saunders updating the dig at the Santa Maria Mission site. Also included was a schedule for the trip to Eufaula, AL. 3. Minutes of the quarterly meeting held 6 April 1987. Bob White urged Society to support expense of having the glass plates of the J. William Decker collection of photographs cleaned and, also, of having prints made. Suzanne Hardee stated the importance and urgency of doing this. Becky Saunders (of Piper Archaeological Research) presented on the Dorion site aka St. Mary's Mission. 4. Letter to Members from Pep Whitfield dated 17 Jun. 1987 announcing upcoming meeting (July 13) with presentation by Deon Jaccard on "Clash of the Cultures" (an interpretation of the powerful early contact between the French, Spanish, and Indians on our North Florida shores, based upon first hand accounts of those encounters. 5. Letter to Mr. Sam Coe, President of the Wexford Historical Society, from Harry Bridges dated 22 June 1987, thanking Coe for his tour of Wexford. 6. Letter to Mr. Bridges from Sam Coe of Wexford, Ireland, 16 July 1987. Coe encouraged the Society to plan to visit Wexford he thanked Bridges for sending materials about historic Amelia Island. 7. Suzanne Hardee reported that the Decker Collection of 1000 glass plates is in order now. Rosanna Oliver reported by upcoming annual Restoration Foundation Antique Show. Anita Bridges announced the Tour of Homes on the same weekend. Hal Belcher reported inventory of Bosque Bello Cemetery was ready for publishing (to be ready 1 Jan. 1988). Slates of new officers presented: Harry Bridges, President; Jim Martin, Vice President; Helen Gwinn, Secretary; Bob White, Treasurer. Board of Directors: Pep Whit[e]field, Past President; Mary Holt Boswell, Suzanne Hardee, Hal Belcher, Scott Perryman, Carol Anderson, Betty Long, Jane Bos. Joel Embry, Realtor and Developer, presented slide presentation on a new Community Assistance Program entitled: National Main Street Center by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. 9. Advisory Services for Local Commercial Revitalization Efforts Through the Community Assistance Program published by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Seven pages. 10. Minutes from a meeting of the Board of Directors held 18 Nov. 1987 held in home of President Harry Bridges. Board endorsed Main Street, U.S.A. resolution. Board agreed to write letter of recommendation to George Crady and Arnett Girardeau asking their support to grant ($50,000) for Amelia Island Museum of History. Board will send a letter of concern to the City Commission expressing concern over infringement of the Port development on the Historic District. 11. Bridges, President, to The Honorable City Commission dated 19 Nov. 1987 expressing concern about the proposed rezoning of properties for additional Port Development and possible infringement upon the Historic District. Includes list of Commissioners. 18. Newspaper clipping "Developers seek port rezoning." Hand-written memorandum from H. Bridges regarding conversation with Jim Bartell, Chairman of the Zoning Board. 19. Letter from George Crady to Harry Bridges dated 22 Dec. 1987 affirming Crady's support for the $50,000 grant for the Amelia Island Museum of History. 20. Letter from Harry L. Bridges to The Honorable George A. Crady dated 19 Nov. 1987 asking for support for the Museum's inclusion in the proposal for historic preservation. 21. Photocopy of News-Leader clipping dated 6 August 1987 by Lucy Beebe titled "Author pens missionary's life history." Author Willie Mae Ashley has written a biography about Emma B. Delaney who served in Africa in 1902. 22. Photocopy of article by Pat Janco published 12 September 1987 in The Northside Neighbor titled "Local author documents Fernandina missionary." Author Willie Mae Hardy Ashley has self-published Far From Home, which recounts the story of Emma B. Delaney's missionary work in Africa. 23. Minutes of the Regular Quarterly Meeting held 12 January 1987. Volunteer requests: Hal Belcher for Bosque Bello inventory and Becky Saunders for Dorian Dig. New sound system has been purchased. Amy Knollton gave slide presentation on North Atlantic Right Whales. Amelia Island is included in their prime spawning ground. 24. Information from Eufaula Heritage Association about upcoming tour. Dated 25 March 1987. 25. Minutes of the Regular Quarterly Meeting held 13 July 1987. Suzanne Hardee reported report on the Decker slides is proceeding. Hall Belcher reported mapping and inventory of Bosque Bello Cemetery is complete. Nominating committee announced. Suzanne Hardee brought picture of Princess Amelia she photographed at the British Museum. Deon Jaccard, Director of the Amelia Island Museum of History spoke on Clash of Cultures, which covers Timucuan Indians on Amelia Island. 26. Minutes of the Regular Quarterly Meeting held 12 October 1987. Raising of dues to $5.00 per member was approved. Decker Collection of 1000 glass plates is now in order and ready for identification. Rosanna Oliver reported on annual Antique Show sponsored by RestorationFoundation. Tour of Homes will be same weekend and will include six homes. Hal Belcher reported inventory of Bosque Bello is ready for publishing and would need commitment to be kept up beginning with updated for January 1, 1988.
