"Builders of Rayonier: A Salute to Those Who Serve," a corporate magazine published Autumn 1942. There were 324 Rayonier employees who left their jobs and joined up for active duty in the Army, Navy, Marines or Coast Guard. In the magazine there are articles describing the efforts in the Rayonier organization to support the WWII war effort. Lists and pictures of active duty employees who left jobs in Grays Harbor, Seattle, Tacoma, San Francisco, Fernandina, Shelton, New York and Port Angles company locations and letters from active military are included. One article describes the Florida Defense Force mostly manned by Rayonier veterans from Fernandina. The Florida Defense Force was authorized by the State of Florida to take the place of the National Guard for the duration of the war. Rayonier workers in Fernandina were active as air raid wardens patrolling the beaches and approaches. |
