This is an album complied by a member of the Camellia Garden Club covering the club's activities 1981 - 1985. 1. Cover: The cover has a photograph of a Camellia that is taken from G. G. Gerbing's 1945 loose leaf Camellia book. 2. Beautification Award presented to Sizzln' Steak House owner Bob Smith by Harriett Waas and Betty Waas. 3. Camellia Garden Club 1981-82 Directory. It gives February 16, 1939 as the date the club was organized. The Officers are President- Mrs. John l. Gregory, Vice President- Mrs. F. R. Cole, Secretary- Mrs. John Hooper, Treasurer- Mrs. Marvin Sawyer. Committees are listed and monthly meetings are outlined for the year. A list of all of the members including their Christian names and their phone numbers are listed. Two articles from the News Leader dated October 28, 1981 and November 25, 1981 about the club's monthly meetings. 4. Beautification Award presented to The Hoyt building owners Bob and Pam Selton and Marjorie and Stuart Tabor by Harriett Waas and Helma House. 5. Unidentified photos of the wreath making meeting. 6. Two News Leader articles Litter/ Campaign Pushes Education as Solution to Island Problem dated February 17, 1982 and Clean Up/ Community Joins Forces for Beauty dated March 17, 1982. 7. Three News Leader articles Litter Volunteers Thanked dated March 24, 1982, Island Cleanup Underway dated April 7, 1982 and A Trashy Subject dated May 12, 1982. 8. Camellia Garden Club 1982-83 Directory. It gives February 16, 1939 as the date the club was organized. The Officers are President- Mrs. W. T. Waas, Vice President- Mrs. Ralph House, Secretary- Mrs. John Hooper, Treasurer- Mrs. Marvin Sawyer. Commutes are listed and monthly meetings are outlined for the year. A list of all of the members including their Christian names and their phone numbers are listed. An article from the News Leader dated October 27, 1982 about the club's monthly meetings is attached. 9. A notecard dated November 15, 1982 states the topic of the meeting and that there was no newspaper coverage. A piece of note paper says in cursive that in December the club made wreaths for the Courthouse, Post Office, Health Department, Marine Welcome Station, and City Hall as has been done for 42 years. 10. Beautification Award presented to The Old Schoolhouse owners Mr and Mrs Jim Wallace, Capt and Mrs C. T. Froscher, Mr and Mrs Bert Froscher, Mr and Mrs Tory Froscher and Ann Boyce. No date is included. Two News Leader articles one dated January 26, 1983 and the other undated tell of the club's activities. 11. Program for March 1983. Flower Garnishes is outlined. A handwritten note reports that the nominating committee suggested raising dues from $25 to $30. 12. Handwritten page dated May 16, 1983 says the club met at the home of Betty Waas. The bylaws were changed. The officers for 1983-84 are President-Mary Oliver, Vice president- Helma House, Secretary- Annie Frances Walker and Treasurer- Barbara Clark. 13. Beautification award presented to Memorial United Methodist Church. Article about the April meeting. Neither is dated. 14. Camellia Garden Club 1983-1984 Directory. It gives February 16, 1939 as the date the club was organized. The Officers are President- Mrs. T. W. Oliver, Jr, Vice President- Mrs. Ralph House, Secretary- Mrs. John H. Walker, Treasurer- Mrs. James Clark. Committees are listed and monthly meetings are outlined for the year. Field Trip, October 17, 1983 "wild Flower Field Trip, Orange Park with two unlabeled photos. 16 and 17. Unlabeled photos of Field Trip. 18. "Thanksgiving Fantasy" about wicker basket creations, undated. 19. Wreath Making" during the December 16 meeting the members made wreaths for the city buildings. 20. Federal Garden Clubs: Camellia, Rose and Nightbloomers. The meeting included a lecture on roses by William Oliver, undated. 21. A handwritten letter about the club sending a fifth grade boy to camp. The page includes a Valentine from the boy to the club. 22. Landscaping Design was the topic of the February meeting. Mary Jane Cushman and Peggy Horton received the Camellia Club Beautification Award for their business Gamekeeper on Centre Street. 23. How Does Your Garden Grow was the March meeting topic. 24."Herbs" was presented by a county agent. 25 and 26. Covered Dish Salad Luncheon, May 21, 1984 and Installation of Officers. President- Mrs Ralph House, Vice President- Mrs James Clark, Secretary- Mrs. John Walker, and Treasurer- Mrs. G. W. Crawford. 27 and 28. Words of inspiration to the new officers and unlabeled photos. 29. Handwritten page describing the installation ceremony as "Flying Ahead." 30. Camellia Garden Club 1984-1985 Directory. October 15, 1984 Group Discussion. 32. November 19, 1984 Birds in Our Backyard by Mr H. J Belcher (Hal). December 16 the club met to make wreaths for city buildings. Field Trip, January 21, 1985. 33. Handwritten entry dated February 20, 1984 that Frank Douglas gave a talk on freeze damage. 34. April, 15, 1985 Wildflowers - Mrs F. R. Shurley and may 20, 1985 Covered Dish salad Luncheon and installation of Officers. 35. Undated clippings from 1985. City takes a bow. The Camellia Garden Club's beautification award was given to the city public works department. Award winner The Camellia Garden Club presented Mrs W. A.
