Scope & Content |
A letter to Porte C. Tracy from his 1st cousin once removed, Sara E. Nicholls. Sara was the daughter of Ida Acosta Nicholls and the granddaughter of Catherine Hatcher Acosta. Catherine Hatcher Acosta was the half-sister to Porte's mother, Ada Byron Tracy Hatcher. Sara writes to tell him that because there is no morning train from Folkston to Waycross the next day, she left that afternoon instead. She had planned on saying goodbye to Porte in person that morning but "Uncle Robert (Robter Hatcher, Porte's step-father) and Mr. Johnson had the boat until dinner-time...". She appreciatesd his kindness and everything he'd done for her since she arrived at Traders Hill the previous Sunday. Transcription provided by Ruth Anne Thomson, a descendant of Catherine Isabelle Hatcher Acosta. This collection of correspondences, photographs, personal items, and maps are from the life of Erasmus Darwin Tracy and Porte Creyon Tracy. This collection was donated by the Verne Johnson Pickren, Jr. family for all to enjoy. |
