1. Minutes of the First Quarterly Board Meeting of the General Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society of Amelia Island held January 4th, 1990, at the home of President Jim Martin. Speaker for January meeting will be Sudye Cauthen, talking about "the Florida I love is Vanishing." Harry Bridges appointed historian. Archives Committee tasked to locate all Historical Society papers and documents to be filed at Amelia Island Museum. 2. Minutes of the First Regular Quarterly Meeting of 1990 on January 8, 1990. Outgoing President Harry Bridgers [Bridges] presented gift by Board Member Mary Holt Boswell. Various assignments for committees were presented. Sudye Cauthen introduced; she narrated her essays "Artifacts and Desires" and "The Florida I love is vanishing." A four-page biographer of the speaker, Sudye Cauthen, is included. 3. Minutes of the Second Quarterly Board Meeting of the General Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society of Amelia Island held March 22, 1990, at the home of Board Member Mary Holt Boswell. Speaker for March meeting will be Dr. Ray Arsenault; his topic is "End of Long Hot Summer, the Air Conditioner and Southern Culture." Archives Committee report: Need to know what space is needed for storage at Amelia Museum. Records currently stored in building behind the Chamber (of Commerce). 4. Handwritten thank you note from Harry Bridges. (See #2) 5. Minutes of the Second Quarterly Meeting of the General Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society of Amelia Island held April 9, 1990. Island cemeteries are being plotted. Speaker Dr. Ray Arsenault, Professor of History at University of South Florida (and husband of Kathy Hardee Arsenault and daughter of Suzanne Hardee) was introduced for his talk on "End of Long Hot Summer, the Air Conditioner and Southern Culture." A chart on Residential Air Conditioning in the South, 1960-1980 showing percentage of Households with Air Conditioning for total households and black households. 6. Minutes of the Third Quarterly Meeting of the General Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society of Amelia Island held June [July] 8, 1990. Fall Board meeting will a covered dish supper on September 27, 1990, in Amelia Room of Amelia South Condo. Speaker was Deon Jaccard, Director of the Amelia Island Museum of History. Museum tour followed Jaccard's presentation. 7. Minutes of the Third Quarterly Board Meeting of the General Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society of Amelia Island held June 28, 1990. Tentative speaker for October meeting will be Peggy Freedman who will present a program on Cora Taylor. Historian Harry Bridges announced Betsy Stewart and Suzanne Hardee are cataloging papers received from the Fernandina Beach Chamber storage; they will be stored in the Archive Room at the Museum. Discussion pertaining to Chamber of Commerce building (formerly Seaboard Railroad Depot). This building originally donated to Historical Society but could not be accepted as Society was not incorporated. Building was then given to City to be used for public use only. 8. Minutes of the Fourth Quarterly Meeting of the General Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society of Amelia Island held October 8, 1990. Report from Historical Marker Restoration and Maintenance Committee Chair Ed Livingston was given. Speaker Mrs. Peggy Friedmann presented her personal glimpse of infamous Cora Crane, an expert on "red lights" in the 1890's. Cora was the common-law wife of author Stephen Crane. She also brought artifacts from the wreck of the "Commodore," a ship that left Port of Jacksonville in 1896 and wrecked near Daytona and Ormond Beaches. 9. Letter to Ron Sapp, Dale Dees, A. J. Smith, Milt Shirley and Charles Albert from James W. Martin, President, dated 6 September 1990, asking for support for the museum. Letter notes the Society has 284 members and strongly encourages support of $15,000 grant. 10. Handwritten document detailing Advantages of Bulk Mailing. [Hal Belcher's handwriting]. 11. Letter to Member from James W. Martin, President, dated 28 September 1990, advertising the upcoming program by Peggy Friedmann (described in #8). 12. Handwritten paper showing quotations for printing the 1884 Birds Eye View of Fernandina. 13. Announcement of 1990 spring Trip to Madison & Macon, Georgia on March 17 and 18. 14. Letter from James W. Martin (President) to Members dated 29 September 1990 announcing the October 8th meeting. Speaker will be Peggy Friedmann on Cora Crane and the wreck of the "Commodore." 15. Letter from James W. Martin (President) to Members dated 26 June 1990 announcing the Surprise Party at the Amelia Island Museum of History on July 8th in lieu of the regular meeting. 16. Letter from James W. Martin (President) to Members dated 28 March 1990 announcing the April 9th meeting. 17. Historical marker information. Letter from E. N. Livingston to George A. Crady requesting advice on requirements. Crady responded including a six page document from Carl McMurray at the Bureau of Historic Preservation, titled Florida's Historic Marker Program. Steps include: Determining the significance of the site; determining where the marker will be erected; preparing proposed text for marker; submitting proposal to the State (Bureau of Historic Preservation); final stages; dedication; technical information. 18. Letter from Betsy Stewart to Mrs. F. C. Mencascy (Spain) dated 11 January 1990 expressing appreciation for her donation of $100. 19. Letter from Mary Agnes White (Mrs. R. M.) to Mrs. Frank X. Friedmann, Jr., dated 4 August 1990, acknowledging Friedmann's agree to speak at the October 8th meeting. Cora Taylor will be her topic. 20. Memo to Ron Sapp, Dale Dees, A. J. Smith, Milt Shirley, Charles Albert from James W. Martin dated 6 September 1990. Purpose of letter to ask for support for the proposed $15,000 grant to the Amelia Island Museum. Martin asks to be notified if anyone for Commissioners oppose the grant. 21. Letter to Dr. James R. Gildenston from James W. Martin dated 19 November 1990 thanking him for letter from the Historical District Council. 22. Memo dated 19 November 1990 to President Jim Martin from James Gildenston requesting a donation of $250 to pay for a cookout being held to begin the archeological survey of Old Town. See #21. 23. Letter from Deon (Jaccard) on Amelia Island Museum of History letterhead to Fellow Staff Member, dated August 14, 1990. Deon urges Staff Members to write to the City Commissioners telling them how important the Museum is and that it needs money. Names and addresses of the five City Commissioners are given. 24. Letter from James W. Martin, Vice President to Dr. William R. Fryar, Principal of Fernandina Beach High School dated November 18, 1990. Letter is on Merrill Lynch letterhead. Letter send information about Florida Historical Society's essay contest and asks that the appropriate teacher call Martin to indicate if they will participate. Fryar responds that he has given the info. to the Social Studies department head. 25. Letter from James W. Martin, President, to Members dated 29 March 1990. Letter announces April 9th meeting. Speaker will be Ray Arsenault whose subject is End of the Long Hot summer: The Airconditioner and Southern Culture. 26. Letter dated 26 June 1990 to members from President Martin announcing July Jubilee to be held in place of the regular meeting. Amelia Island Museum of History is sponsoring this event to be dated July 8th at the Museum. 27. Letter to Members from President Martin dated 28 September 1990 announcing meeting to be held October 8th. Speaker will be Peggy Friedmann who will talk about the infamous Cora Crane. She will also bring some artifacts from the wreck of the Commodore, a ship that left Port of Jacksonville December 31, 1896 and is the subject of Stephen Crane's short story The Open Boat. 28. Letter from President Martin dated 9 October 1990 to Mrs. Peggy Friedmann thanking her for her presentation to the Society. 29. 1990 Annual Corporation Report from General Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society to Florida Department of State. 30. Miscellaneous handwritten notes in preparation for March 22 Board Meeting to be held at home of Mary Holt. 31. (undated ca. 1990). Letter from R. M. Ingle advising recipient(s) to arrange for publication of the thesis written by FSU student Derald Pacetti titled: Shrimping at Fernandina, Florida, before 1920: Industry development, Fisheries Regulation, Wartime.
