The Fernandina News-Record Friday, July 9, 1915 There is a story of the Fernandina Lumber Company adding a new electric alarm to the office. It was a alarm only installed a few hours before it was broken into. There had been lefts at the saw mill before but no evidence of who was stealing. A police officer caught a employee attempting to break into the safe and the employee insisted that the police officer shoot him when caught breaking into the safe. (page 1) There is a story about what will Amelia Beach have at the opening of the resort on Thursday July, 15th. Some of the things mentioned is that they expect over 100 conductors to arrive to this event. Prizes will be given out. One for best dancing at the afternoon & evening events. The story mentions that the German objective is to "preserve as great a freedom of action as possible to interfere with shipments for supplies to Great Britain. - There is a story of a assassination attempt on J.P. Morgan by Frank Holt using a timed bomb in the national capital. The bomb was in the reception room and the room was wrecked. It says besides the room no other damage occurred. (Page 2) - There is a story titled "Castle Tick Causes Loss" It mentions that Florida is the only state not made a systematic fight to eradicate this pest. Some of the statics in the article mention that "the cost of work has been 50 cents per animal freed from quarantine. (page 2) - There is a story how Switzerland decrees a "6 months in prison or a fine of $1,000.00 for anyone who by public speech, writing, or by illustration, exposes hatred or contempt for a foreign nation, its ruler or its government." It reports how Switzerland is struggling to keep down strong expressions for allies or axis nations. (page 2) - In the story titled "Revenue Divisions Abolished" there is a story about the internal revenue employees on payroll to restrict service all over the United States. Congress giving lack of appropriations. It mentions how Florida was made up of 9 districts and would be redistricted into seven districts by July 1, 1915. (page 2) - There is a story of $75,000.00 worth of fire damage done in the town of Punta Gorda (located north of the town Fort Myers, Florida.) It mentions in the article that 5 wholesale fish houses and a barrel factories entailed a los of $75,000.00. A warehouse and 3 freight card were destroyed. (page 2) - In a story titled "Russ-Sweidish mails censored" there is a report coming from the British foreign office that the Germans captured a Swedish mail steamer Bjoern and Torsten. The mail from the Russians and the Swedish had been opened up and censored by the Germans. (page 2) - Under the First Colored Church it mentions what the 50th anniversary celebration for the First Colored Church experience was like. It was said 700 people were present in the city. They laid the cornerstone. (Page 3) - There is story of a 14 year old girl named Lillie and her Birthday held at 410 South 7th street (house still standing) where Mr. & Mrs. Henry Emery home. The article covers 7 songs that were instrumental, duets, and recitations played at this Birthday party. (bottom of page 3) - There is a charter for the Keystone Hotel that was proposed as of July 15, 1915. Proposed charter and witneesses are E.W. Bailey, L.G. Hirth, R.A. MacDonell. (page 3) - There is a promotion for the opening of the beach for Thursday July 15, 1915. One of the things mentioned is "The occasion is to be a kind of an old time "home-coming" for all former Fernandinians and Nassau countiaus, and if you have any friends are relatives who once lived in this section, write to them and tell them to meet you at Fernandina at this time." (page 8) There is a story titled C'etait Le Roll that of what trench life was like from a Belgian soldier fighting with his brother-in-law that comes from Youth's companion. It mentions how this soldier witnessed King Albert of Belgium in the trenches during a battle.
