1. Letter to Ms. Caroline H. Anderson from George W. Percy, State Historic Preservation Officer, dated 19 February 1996, regarding the review of Marker Application for United Methodist Church. A copy of the order form dated 12/23/96 is included. 2. Letter to Mr. Bob White, Historical Society of Amelia Island, from Quintin Jones, Chair of the Public Information Subcommittee, dated 22 March 1996. Letter asks that the Historical Society submit a list of questions regarding the proposed annexation of the unincorporated areas of Amelia Island into the City limits. 3. Newsletter to All Volunteer Staff of the Amelia Island Museum of History from Deon Jaccard dated April 1996. Articles recognize the contributions of Ron Kurtz; announce arrival of E Mail at the Museum; and announce 10th anniversary of the Museum which will see the 100,000th visitor. 4. Spring 1996 issue of The Clincher announcing a program entitled Birds, Bats, Butterflies and Other Critters of Amelia Island to be presented by Carol Wyatt. 1996 Officers and Board of Directors are listed. Memo to Members of the Historical Society from Lois B. Mays dated 22 November 1996. It is copy of an article submitted to the Waycross Journal-Herald for the week of the 100th anniversary of the terrible hurricane of 1896. Article was not used but was distributed by the author. 7. Newspaper clipping from the December 8, 1996 Atlanta Journal titled Overseer of state plaques helps other mark history. 8. Announcement of Quarterly Meeting of the Historical Society to be held 8 January 1996 by Mary Holt Boswell, President. Speaker will be Jim Mayo, Administrator of Baptist Medical Center-Nassau. Mary Bos is planning spring trip. Renewal of membership for 1996 is requested. 9. Handwritten list dated January 1996 of Officers and Directors. 10. Historical Society By-Laws (1996). Article I. Board of Trustees. Article IV. Permanent projects. 11. Minutes of the Board of Directors for January 4, 1996. Outgoing president, Mary Holt Boswell, welcome the new officers. Jim Mayo will speak at the first quarterly meeting. Ongoing projects include Historical Marker for Memorial United Methodist Church, plaque for applique at Baptist Hospital, update on Amelia Island Lighthouse. Yearly field trip was discussed. Future speakers were suggested. Connection with Fort Clinch discussed. Administrative matters were discussed. 12. Minutes of the Quarterly Membership Meeting on January 8, 1996 in the Nassau Realtors Building. Items in the Board meeting #11 were discussed. In addition Bob White presented outgoing President Boswell with a crystal bowl in appreciation for her leadership. Jim Mayo spoke about the changes at Baptist Medical Center--Nassau (formerly run by Nassau County). Mr. Mayo's resume and a handout Building A Tradition (at Baptist Medical Center - Nassau) are included as well as a thank you letter to Mayo signed by A. Hamilton Chandler, Sr., President (dated 10 January 1996). 13. Spring Trip information. Information about overnight trip to Ocala and Gainesville on March 8 and 9. 14. Letter to Members dated 2 January 1996 from Mary Holt Boswell announcing the meeting to be held January 8 featuring speaker Jim Mayo. Note: January is crossed out and April is inserted. A pencilled note is attached detailing information about the speaker for the meeting in April. 15. Clipping from the News-Leader dated 3 April 1996 about the upcoming meeting on April * with Carol Wyatt speaking on Birds, Bats, Butterflies and other Critters of Amelia Island. 16. Upcoming meeting will be held at Amelia Island Museum of History and speaker will be Carol Wyatt who will speak on flora and fauna of Amelia Island. President of the Amelia Island Fernandina Restoration Foundation, Inc., Worsley spoke about the Foundation. 18. Letter to Carol Wyatt dated 9 April 1996 from A. Hamilton Chandler, Sr., President, thanking her for slide lecture on Birds, Bats, Butterflies and Other Critters of Amelia Island. 19. Letter to Mildred Walko, Treasurer of the Guale Historical Society in St. Marys GA dated 13 May 1996 from Susanne Z. Thamm, Secretary. Letter subscribes to newsletter of Guale Historical Society. 20. Newspaper clipping from News-Leader dated 24 April 1996 offering Congratulations to the Amelia Island Museum of History on the occasion of your 10th birthday from your friends at the General Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society of Amelia Island. 21. Minutes of the Board of Directors June 26, 1996. Third Quarterly Meeting speaker will be Deon Jaccard's program People and Potsherds. Meeting will be held 8 July. October program will focus on history of pogy fishing on Amelia Island. Hal Belcher has located the island's North Beacon (at Fort Clinch) which was abandoned in 1900. Local DAR chapter will unveil a historical marker dedicated to Revolutionary War heroes which will be located in front of the Depot (on July 5). Publicity for the upcoming meeting includes clipping from the Fernandina News Leader 7/3/96 publication. 22. Minutes of the Quarterly Membership Meeting on July 8, 1996, at the Nassau Board of Realtors Building. See. #21. 23. Letter to Mrs. Deon L. Jaccard dated 25 September 1996 from Chandler thanking her for her presentation on the third 1996 membership meeting. 24. Publicity for the Fernandina News Leader Publication 10/9/1996. October 14 meeting of the General Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society of Amelia Island which will feature James Corbett's lecture and slide program on The Story of the Munnawhatteaug: A historical look at the pogy fishing industry of Amelia Island. 25. Minutes of the Board of Directors on October 9, 1996 at O'Kane's Irish Pub. President Chandler announced 4th quarterly meeting to be held October14 with James S. and Exteen Corbett presenting program of the pogy fishing industry. Progress is being made on the historical marker for the Memorial Methodist Church. 26. Minutes of the Quarterly Membership Meetings on October 14, 1996 held at the Nassau Board of Realtors Building. See #24. Corbett acknowledged the contributions of many people to the pogy fishing industry. James Corbett provided the Historical Society with a copy of John Frye's book on menhaden fishing entitled The Men All Singing (1978). 27. Letters dated 17 October 1996 from President Chandler to James S. Corbett and Exteen Corbett thanking them for their talk on pogy fishing at the last membership meeting. |
