Vaughan dated 24 May 1978 to Fernandina Beach Chamber of Commerce in the Old Train Depot. Vaughan is asking for help locating burial sorts of his ancestors. 11. Newsletter dated December 1978. Speaker at January 1979 meeting will be Mr. N. Clement Slade, Jr., of Jacksonville. His will give a slide presentation of North Florida from the Civil War Era to 1890. Ken Sturges is incoming president. Museum Corporation will sponsor class on Line drawing Fernandina architecture taught by Joan Holdsworth. Mary Agnes White gave a dues reminder; dues for 1979 are $3.00 or $6.00 per couples. 12. Board Members--Pat Cottrell, Bill Waas, John Tilman, Eldridge Partin, Bill Galphin, Carol Floyd, Rosanna Oliver, Ben Sorenson, Lon Owens, Edith Shirley. 13. Handwritten notes about Historical Society meeting on 14 August 1978 when walking tour of downtown narrated by George Davis was held. Tour was illustrated by large photographs displayed in store windows. Tours by recorded on cassette recorder by Bob White. Tour followed by refreshments served in Fellowship Room of Presbyterian Church. Member Edie Shurley reported on progress of the Museum and plans to attend City Commission meeting to request help with Museum. Museum and Fernandina Beach Chamber of Commerce will share space. Parrty is planned at Old Schoolhouse. City budget will include $400 for historical monument. 14. Typewritten copy of notes in #13. 15. Barbara Stidfole, Director of Historical Museum, requested volunteers to identify photos, register articles, clean up artifacts, type 2700 cards. Galphin introduced, Jack McGriffin, speaker for this evening who remembered Fernandina as he was growing up there. 16. Newsletter dated April 1978. Announced upcoming meeting of The General Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society on 10 April 1978 titled "A Trip Through Yesterday." Ken Sturges announced bus trip to Savannah on June 3rd. President Oliver announced July meeting will be tour of downtown Fernandina led by George Davis. New officers named at January meeting were named. Helen Litrico announced celebration of re-vitalization of Centre Street on April 29. Museum Board of Trustees and Executive Committee are meeting to transact appropriate matters of business. Museum Corporation is working with the City Commission to secure appropriate site for Museum. Stidfole reported help of Kathleen Davis and Anne Kavanaugh. Mary Agnes requests payment of dues. 17. Minutes of Historical Society on 10 April 1978. Society's by-laws read with minor changes (in preparation for re-instating Society into a Corporation. Chartered bus trip to Savannah will be June 3. Dedication of the Re-vitalization of Centre Street will be held April 29, 1978. 18. Newsletter dated July 1978 announcing George Davis walking tour and bus trip to Savannah and Fernandina Historical Museum Corporation. 19. Newsletter dated September 1978 announcing upcoming meeting to be held 9 October with speaker Private G. W. Berninger of the 1st New York Engineers (circa 1864). He was discuss what was going on at Fort Clinch the Civil War years. Picnic and tour of Fort Clinch to be held November 5th. Last Regular Meeting and Coming Events were noted. 20. Minutes of Clinch Historical Society dated 9 October 1978. Proposed slate of Officers for 1979 presented. Berninger appeared at the meeting in military dress. Jack Heard needs records concerning the Old Section of Bosque Bello Cemetery and suggested Historical Society might take on a project of restoration of the Old Section of Bosque Bello. 21. Executive Board Minutes dated 3 December 1978. Newly elected president, Ken Sturges, opened the meeting. Jack Heard's request for Cemetery Committee to prepare list of graves was discussed. Daughters of the American Revolution is already working on this. |
