Letter to Mother from Erasmus Darwin Tracy, Jr. |
Object Name |
Letter |
Scope & Content |
A letter written by Erasmus Darwin Tracy, Jr. (who was called E. D. by family but referred to as Darwin in this collection) to his mother, Maria Hatcher Tracy. In a previous letter to 'Pa' (E. D. Tracy, Sr.), Darwin mentioned being sick, and he opens this letter by assuring his mother that he is feeling better and not to worry. He also says he hasn't found his missing money yet, but hopes to find it soon. Darwin also tells his mother that he has learned to '...fear disease more than bullets", an eerie foreshadowing of how he would later die. This collection of correspondences, photographs, personal items, and maps are from the life of Erasmus Darwin Tracy and Porte Creyon Tracy. This collection was donated by the Verne Johnson Pickren, Jr. family for all to enjoy. |
