Title |
Protect or Pillage: What to do with Archaeological Resources on Private Property |
Object Name |
Essay |
Scope & Content |
A legal writing sample from the fall of 1990 by Lisanne C. Dorion that uses a story about a couple, the Stacks, who found the ruins of a mission on land they had bought. The writing sample uses their case as a lens for analyzing both current and potential legal protections for artifacts and archaeological sites. Several of the names used in this essay appear to be false and the overall case is very similar to that of the Dorion Dig which occurred after human remains and the ruins of Santa Catalina de Gaule Mission were uncovered on land owned by George and Dottie Dorion of Jacksonville, on Amelia Island. |
