1. Flier advertising fall quarterly meeting of the Society. To be held at First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. Mr. G. G. Gerbing will speak about the Shrimp Industry in Nassau County. 2. Letter from Carol Ruckdeschel dated 26 October 1979 requesting an article from a 1916 Fernandina newspaper entitled "The Grand old Lady of Cumberland Island." which told of the life of Mrs. Henrietta Fader. 3. Minutes of a Directors' Meeting of the Historical Society held 16 Dec. 1979 taken by Carol B. Floyd. Helen G. Litrico was president. 4. Letter to Ms. Carol Ruckdeschel dated 17 December 1979 from Mrs. Helen G. Litrico in response to her letter #2. Mrs. Litrico was unable to find the newspaper article but offered to ideas for further research. 5. Letter from Charles E. Bennett to David Kenneth Sturges, Jr. dated 10 April 1979. Bennett regrets he was unable to attend the meeting on April 9th. 6. Summer Issue of Newsletter announcing meeting to be held 9 July 1979. Speaker to be Mrs. Zachary G. Holland, Jr. who is currently President of the Jacksonville Society of Southern Dames; Director of District Tow, United Daughters of the Confederacy; Historian for Timucuan Chapter of Daughters of American Colonists. She will present on Mary Martha Reid. Details of upcoming trip to Okeefenokee State Park are given. 7. Minutes of meeting held 8 October 1979. An evening at Gra[e]yfields on Cumberland is planned. Roseanne Oliver announced Antique Show sponsored by Restoration Society will be held in November. Nominating Committee of Mrs. Oliver, Pat Cottrell and Ken Sturges presented slate of Officers: Helen Litrico (President), Howard Hanna (Vice President?), Carol Floyd (Secretary), Bob White (Treasurer). Board of Directors: Exteen Corbett (?), Pat Cottrell, Carolyn Croft, Anne Coonrod, Diane Heard, Ann Kavanaugh, Ken Sturges, Mary Agnes White, Isabelle Sturges, Bruce Hall, Dr. Jim Gildenston. Speaker, Mr. G. G. "Gus" Gerbing was introduced and spoke on his experience in raising shrimp in captivity and about the life cycle of shrimp as well as the evolution of the shrimping industry on Amelia Island. 8. Minutes of Directors' Meeting held 16 December 1979. Helen Litrico reported on her trip to research Santa Maria in Spanish archive at University of Florida and her trip to St. Marys Visitor's Center. Suggestions for future programs and future trips were discussed. 9. Minutes of the fall quarterly meeting of the Society held 8 October 1979. Mr. G. G. Gus Gerbing will present program on Shrimp Industry in Nassau County. Slate of officers for 1980 will be presented. Museum President Susan McCranie will coordinate a clean up of the Museum (old County Jail). JayCees will use Museum of Haunted House at Halloween. Major fundraiser at Museum is being planned. Historical Society will be have Holiday Evening at Cumberland Island on December 8. 10. Minutes of Historical Society meeting held 8 October 1979 at the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church. Ken Sturges opened the meeting. Nominations closed by Bill Galphin and John Ferreira. Approved by voice vote. Galphin introduced Gustav Gerbing who spoke about raising shrimp. Mrs Coonrod served refreshments. Ann K. Robas was recording secretary. Handwritten notes (in red ink) used for #10. 11. Minutes of 8 January 1979 meeting. Barbara Stidfole announced Museum's sponsorship of courses in art, weaving, and genealogy. Frances Dudley is organizing overnight trip to Eufala Al and Westville GA. Program by N. Clement Slade containing slides about northeastern Florida from 1865 to turn of century has been presented. 12. Newsletter announcing summer quarterly meeting on 9 July 1979. Mrs. Zachary G. Holland, Jr., will present program about Mary Martha Reid. Field trip to Okeefenokee State Park on 19 August 1979. 13. Minutes of meeting of the Executive Board held (no date given) at home of President Rosanna Oliver. Re-incorporation f the Society has been accomplished. Upcoming program will be walking tour narrated by George Davis to be held either July 10 or August 14. City of Fernandina Beach will be including Museum in their new budget. |
