The letter reads as follows: "New York Oct. 14, 1855" "Mr. James T. O'Neill Dear Sir yours of the 19th Sept. came duly to hand. At the tie there was a vessel advertised [?] for St. Marys and we immediately got the goods ready [?] and sent them down but found no vessel, and [unreadable word] sending to the office they replied [?] that the vessel was in Georgia. We [?] have kept them until today in hopes there would be a vessel and being no prospect at present have sent them down stream to Savannah Case [?] Bros.[?] and Villalonga to be forwarded by boat to St. Marys. Amt. of bill enclosed $9//17 [?]. we also enclose blank note to Mr[?] which please make payable in Savannah if it suits you as well, sign and return to us by mail. It is very difficult filling such orders as yours on a/c of sizes, and rather out of our way but in as much as we have been selling Mr. Dunbar we have done so now. The difficulty is this in our [indecipherable word] trade we put our goods up in dozzens so many of each size. Usually [?] only 1 pr [indecipherable] in a doz. and in filing such an order as yours we have had to break as many as 5 Dozzens. Yours Truly [indecipherable] [Indecipherable] Currin & Sherwood" |
