1. $524.28 paid out of construction account as of 2/19/54. 2. Minutes of membership meeting held 6 March 1954. President Dan Kelly presided. Minutes of last meeting (30 April 1953) approved. Members of the Florida State Board of Parks and Historic Memorials reported concerning Fort Clinch. Need for motor boating facilities brought up. Mayor Gordon Butler, City Manager Floyd Glisson, Mr. Thomas J. Shave, Jr., and Mr. Van Dyke were introduced. Slate presented by nominating committee (Mr. Ferreira, chair): Clinch, Duncan Lamont, President Snodgrass, Dena, First Vice President Kelly, Howard, Second Vice President Klarer, L. A., Third Vice President Decker, J. W., Executive Secretary Sawyer, Mrs. Marvin, Treasurer Clark, Mrs. Barbara, Corresponding Secretary Kelly, Dan, Director 3. Four checks from the Florida National Bank at Fernandina. All to DecKrafters and Fernandina Lumber & Supply Co. signed by W. W. Benn, Dan Kelly, J. Wm. Decker. All from Construction Account. 4. Treasurer's report showing assets and liabilities of $1473.95. 5. Letter to Duncan [Clinch] from Dena Snodgrass dated 4 October 1954 stating that Mr. Decker and John Williams agree that the Association will pay half the cost of the cannon to match Clinch's offer to pay the others half. Information on how the payment is to be submitted and also a reference to the income tax exemption papers. Also a note that Snodgrass did not tell Mr. Clinch about the carriage as she thought Duncan would like to do that. 6. Exemption Affidavit Form 1023 Treasury Department Internal Revenue Service. Submitted by J. William Decker, Executive Secretary, General Duncan Lamont Clinch Memorial Association, P.O. Box 524, Fort Clinch State Park, Fernandina, Florida. Document completed but not signed or notarized. 7. Letter to the Association from Laurie W. Tomlinson, District Director, and Edwin E. Barnes, Chief of Audit Division, dated 3 November 1954, given the opinion that Association is exempt from Federal income Tax as a 501(c)3. 8. Letter to Mrs. Bertie Bowers Sawyer, The Florida National Bank, Fernandina, Florida, from Dena Snodgrass (512 Hildebrandt Buildings, Jacksonville, FL) dated 23 December 1954. Letter summarizes various matters with the Bureau of Internal Revenue and a request to bill Mr. Clinch for one half of the cannon and transportation costs (bill to Chicago or Miami). Copy sent to Mr. Decker. 9. Fine Arts Rider issued to Florida State Park Service by National Fire Insurance Company of Fernandina, Florida. Insurance premium of $2800 billed by John T. Ferreira and dated 16 December 1954. 10. U. S. Return of Organization Exempt from Tax for Calendar Year 1954. Submitted by Bertie Bowers Sawyer, Treasurer on May 15, 1955. Gross income was $264.00 Incurred expenses were $488.06. Disbursements of $4292.43 were made to Deck-Krafters for remodeling fort Clinch. Accumulation of income at end of year was $1077.19. (Gross income included $64.00 in dues plus a life membership of $200.00 for Bayard Clinch.) Miscellaneous expenses were also detailed. 11. Letter to Miss Dena Snodgrass from Laurie W. Tomlinson (District Director of Internal Revenue) and Edwin E. Barnes (Chief of Audit Division) dated March 2, 1954. Included is Form 1023, Application for Exemption. Referenced is a conversation with Mr.. Hollingsworth in the District Director's Office. 12. Exemption Application Form 1023. See #11. 13. Letter to Mr. Laurie W. Tomlinson (District Director of Internal Revenue) from Dena Snodgrass (Second Vice-President, General Duncan Lamont Clinch Memorial Association, Inc.) dated October 30, 1954 returning the completed Form 1023. 14. Letter from Laurie W. Tomlinson and James P. Doss to the Memorial Association regarding Federal income tax exemption and dated November 4, 1954. 15. Letter from Snodgrass to Tomlinson dated December 18, 1954 stating that the corporation should be exemption from payment of withholding tax. |
