1. Letter to Society Members dated 20 January 1976 from Leila V. Ketchum, Society Secretary. January 12 meeting has been rescheduled to February 2. Speaker will be Dr. Frank Slaughter, Jacksonville surgeon and author of historical novels. 2. Letter from Kathleen Deagan to W.N. Galphin dated 13 Feb. 1976 agreeing to come to Amelia Island with students in an archeological field school. Focus to be on block houses at Fort Clinch. 3. Letter to Dr. Kathleen Deagan from W.N. Galphin dated 25 Feb. 1976 addressing matters from #5. 4. Letter to Society Member from Leila V. Ketchum dated 22 March 1976 discussing Board of Directors activities. April 5 speaker will be Dr. Charles W. Arnade who is author of books about Florida. Society outing will be mini-tour of the Episcopal Cemetery at St. Peter's followed by tour to Amelia City to view grave of Lt. John Vaughan. Another outing to St. Mary's is being planned. Barbara Stidfole reported on future prospects for a Historical Society Museum. Suggestions were made to engender high school students' interest in Florida history. April 21 speaker will be Rep. White dated 6 May 1976 with questions about the metal sign ordered by State of Florida for the General Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society of Amelia Island. 7. Letter to Robert M. White from L. M. Thomas dated 12 May 1976 stating historical marker referred to is constructed of cast aluminum giving details of color finish and background color. 8. Sketch of Lieutenant Vaughn for Mini-Tour to be held 23 May 1976 (Reissued for 15 March 1992). 9. Newsletter dated 19 June 1976. Signed by Leila V. Ketchum, Secretary. Reports upcoming outing to St. Marys. Also Barbara Stidfole appointed Chairman of committee exploring possibilities of establishing museum in Fernandina. Pat Cottrell will be Finance Chairman. On July 12, Dr. Nancy Thomas of Jacksonville University will speak on Fernandina: Pageant of Architecture with European Flavor. 10. Flier advertising Mid-Summer Outing to St. Augustine to attend the play Cross and Sword. 11. Letter from Jim Macbeth, Chief of Bureau of Historical Museums in the Museum of Florida History, the historical organization dated 9 July 1976 requesting response to questionnaire and letter for the proposed Florida Museum Directory. 12. Letter to General Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society of Amelia Island dated 26 August 1976 from Thelma Peters, President of The Florida Historical Society seeking support for the resolution to preserve the Capitol Building. Eleven pages of information about the preservation of the Building are included. (The 11 pages were not scanned.) 13. Letter dated 10 September 1976 to Mr. John A. Berilla of ITT Rayonier Incorporated from the Clinch Historical Society thanking Rayonier for their interest in civic projects and announcing the passage of a unanimous motion to begin ground work for a historical museum in the area. Barbara Stidfole heads the committee. Letter incomplete. 14. Letter from Charles E. Bennett to Mrs. Ceila Ketchum dated 28 September 1976 responding to invitation to attend October 17 ceremony at Plaza San Carlos. Bennett represented the 30 District, Florida, in the U. S. Congress House of Representatives. 16. Program for Unveiling of Historical Markers of Plaza San Carlos and Fort San Carlos dated 17 October 1976. The program included music, flag raising, speakers, unveiling of markers et al. 17. Letter to Ms. Barbara Stidfole from Jim, Macbeth, Bureau of Historical Museums, Museum of Florida History, dated 27 October 1976. Macbeth accepted invitation to speak to Society on January 10. 18. Letter to Mrs. Shurley, President of Historical Society, dated 16 November 1976 from Barbara Stidfole, Chairman Museum Committee. Letter announces formation of Board of Trustees to establish and direct a non-profit corporation for set-up and operation of the museum and asking for a representative of the Historical Society. |
