1. Letter from James R. Gildenston dated 12 Jan. 1982 to Eight Flags Museum (Dorothy) offering support the Museum in its grant application to the Florida Endowment for the Humanities to study black history at American Beach. 2. Newsletter of Jacksonville Historical Society, Inc., announcing February program by Dr. Daniel Schafer (U. of North Florida) as well as other news of the Society. 3. Minutes of Board Meeting held 7 Mar. 1982. Courthouse records moved from Courthouse steeple to County Building on 14th Street. Society members have volunteered to sort through these records. 4. Minutes of the Regular Quarterly Meeting held 12 April 1982. An account of Dr. Dan Shaffer [sic} entitled "Lordships of Amelia Island" is given. 5. Letter from President Gildenston dated 2 June 1982 to Board of County Commissioners thanking to Board for providing facilities for the "dead records" that had been stored in the attic of the County Court House. 6. Minutes of Board Meeting held 27 June 1982. Historical Marker at Old Town has been reinstalled 7. Minutes of the Regular Quarterly Meeting held 12 July 1982 at the First Presbyterian Church. New Board members (Whitfield and Lund) were introduced. Museum report given by Edith Shurley requesting volunteers. George T. Davis (former Harbor Master) was the speaker. 8. Letter from Gildenston dated 15 July 1982 to City of Fernandina Beach (Grady) requesting that the City acquire title to the Bosque Bello Cemetery and have an association manager the business of the Cemetery. 9. Letter from Gildenston dated 15 July 1982 requesting Don of Treasure Salvors, Inc., make a presentation to the Society about the archeological finds of the "Atocha." 10. Letter from Gildenston dated 16 July 1982 to University of North Florida requesting that UNF declare Bosque Bello Cemetery an historical project to be platted by students. 11. Letter from Gildenston dated 16 July 1982 to Arthur Jacobs, Attorney at Law, requesting his aid in developing state or federal funding to improve and maintain Bosque Bello. 12. Letter from Carol Floyd to George T. Davis dated 11 Aug. 1982 thanking Davis for his program titled "Men of the Nassau Light Artillery." 13. Letter from Gene M. Burnett of Greene-Mooers & Co. to Ms. Helen Litrico seeking the mailing list from the historical society for the purpose of marketing his upcoming book. 14. Letter from Gildenston dated 11 Oct. 1982 to City of Fernandina Beach (Grady) requesting status of the City in acquiring title to the old section of Bosque Bello Cemetery. 15. Letter from Edw. Ridolph to Clinch Historical Society dated 31 Oct. 1982 requesting information and data on the street railway system that operated in Fernandina Beach from around 1902 to 1918. 16. Letter from Gildenston to Amelia Island Plantation (Ralph) dated 9 Nov. 1982 expressing interest in hosting the Florida Historical Society Annual Meeting. 17. Minutes of Regular Quarterly Society dated 11 January 1982. Reports on festivities at Fort Clinch, conditions at Bsoquebello Cemetery [sic] and looking at courthouse records. Presentation by Tom Ubank, Archeologist from University of Florida on the excavation of the McIntosh Sugar House built 1824 to1836. 18. Note and invoice from Laurie Pittman, Secretary, apologizing for lack of heat at January 11 meeting at First Presbyterian Church. 19. Meeting announcement dated 29 March 1982 from President Jim Gildenston. Speaker will be Dan Shaffer {Schafer] of University of Gainesville who will speak about British occupation of East Florida. County's old records have been moved from Courthouse to County building on 14th Street. Board of Directors approved spending $100 to microfilm and oldest records. More organization of these records is needed. Mary Agnes White reported on field trip to Beautfort, SC, and Savannah, GA. Museum has received a grant from Florida Endowment for the Humanities for study of Black history at American Beach. 20. Meeting announcement dated 28 June 1982 from President Jim Gildenston. Guest Speaker is George T. Davis, "one of Fernandina's Finest" who will present of "Yulee boys" who organized the Nassau Light Artillery and built most of the buildings in downtown Fernandina Beach. The Museum needs volunteers. The Museum is interested in applying to the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation for formal recognition for various restoration projects. 21. Meeting announcement dated October 1982 from President Jim Gildenston. Meeting to be held 18 October at First Presbyterian Church. Speaker will be Poke McHenry who writes a popular column for the Florida Times Union. New directors have been appointed (to fill vacancies): Allen Whitfield, Cevera Burgess and Jerry Lund. 22. Thank you letter dated 11 August 1982 from Carol Floyd, Secretary, to George T. Davis who presented Men of the Nassau Light Artillery at the program. 23. Newsletter of the Jacksonville Historical Society, Inc. dated June 1982. Historical markers of Jacksonville are listed. 24. Letter from Carol B. Floyd dated 8 April 1982 to Mrs. Carol B. Baumer, President of Junior League of Jacksonville, Inc. Letter acknowledges contribution of $10,000 which will be used to convert the "bull pen" on the second floor of the Museum into multi-media area. Also included is a newspaper clipping from the News-Leader dated 17 March 1982 with photo and headline: Museum Receives $10,000. |
