1. Announcement of spring trip to Thomasville, GA, and Pebble Hill Plantation on March 23 to 24, 1985. 2. Newsletter dated October 1985. Program "Historic Properties Survey to be presented by Paul Weaver of Historic Properties Associates of St. Augustine. In conjunction with Fernandina Restoration Foundation. Information about Foundation Antique Show. Information about "Amelia Light" program administered by William R. Fryar, PhD and Principal of Fernandina Beach High School. Project intended to further document and publicize our history. 3. Amelia Island Fernandina Restoration Foundation 1985 Activity Report 1891 County Courthouse and Post Office Building are two examples of buildings on Amelia Island of interest. Also Bosque Bello Cemetery. Funding from Federal Income Tax Credits as well as intense local interest are helping preservation efforts. 4. List of new officers and board of the Historical Society from the coming 2 years: Pep Whitfield (President), Harry L. Bridges (Vice President), Helen Gwinn (Secretary), Robert M. White (Treasurer). Board of Directors: Phil Floyd, Ann Kavanaugh, Sidney Smith, Dana Fincher, Jim Gildenston, Jim Burns, Lenie Rodeffer and Robert C. White (Past President). 5. Financial Statement 1984 including Proposed Purchases in 1985. 6. Minutes of the Regular Quarterly Meeting held 14 January 1985. Speaker (no name given) represented Stephen C. Foster Park and spoke about Man and the Swamp. 7. Handwritten letter dated 18 January 1985 to Mr. Robert White from George Berninger, Sgt. 1st New York Engineers, conveying thanks from the Squad for the support of the Historical Society. 8. Copy of a letter to Hon. Robert Graham, Office of the Governor from Patricia B. Wiggins, President of the Genealogical Society of South Brevard dated 5 February 1985. Letter protests the proposed destruction of original birth, death, marriage and divorce Vital Records after they are microfilmed. Attached note suggests that our society may be interested in writing a similar letter and is signed by H. Haight, Corresponding Secretary. Also attached is a photocopy of an article published in Today (Brevard newspaper) on 10 January 1985 titled: Registrar converting records to microfilm. 9. Letter to Mr. Lester Debose of Golden Isles Coaches from Mary Agnes White, Trip Chairman, dated 20 February 1985, confirming rental of a bus and driver for the weekend of March 23 and 24. 10. Minutes of the Regular Quarterly Meeting held 8 April 1985. Trip to Thomasville report given by Mary Agnes White. Chris Stewart and Paul Weaver were doing historical research and compiling inventories of historic buildings within the city limits. Speaker was Ken Morgan, Superintendent of Cumberland Island National Seashore, who spoke on present planning and Plum Orchard. 11. Announcement of 8 July 1985 meeting in the First Presbyterian Parish Hall. Program given by Mr. Paul Weaver of Historic Properties Associates. Weaver is doing work for Restoration Foundation and Historic Society including survey of the 20 block historic district. News that FL Legislature has designated Our Museum as the official Transportation Museum of the State of Florida and the Governor has signed the bill. 12. Minutes of the Regular Quarterly Meeting held 8 July 1985. Speaker was Paul L. Weaver, resident of St. Augustine and formerly archivist at the Library of Florida History at University of Florida. 13. Announcement of fall meeting to be given in conjunction with the Fernandina Restoration Foundation. Program to be Historic Properties Survey with presentation by Paul Weaver. 14. Minutes of the Regular Quarterly Meeting held 14 October 1985. Slate of Officers and Directors for the coming two years: Pep Whitfield (President); Harry L. Bridges (Vice-President); Helen Gwinn (Secretary); Robert M. White (Treasurer). Board of Directors: Phil Floyd, Ann Kavanaugh, Sidney Smith, Dana Fincher, Jim Gildenston, Jim Burns, Lenie Rodeffer, and Robert C. White (Past President). Paul Weaver scheduled to speak for third time about his research. 15. Announcement for meeting to be held 14 January 1985. Speaker will be Mr. Phil Dew, Assistant Supervisor of the Stephen Foster State Park at Fargo, GA. Title: Man and the Swamp; he will used archeological and anthropological perspectives, 16. Next meeting to be held 8 April 1985. Speaker will be Mr. Ken Morgan, Superintendent of Cumberland Island National Seashore; he will inform us on present development of the island with special emphasis on Plum Orchard. Trip to Thomasville was reported to be successful according to Mary Agnes. Historic Property Associates of St. Augustine, under sponsorship of Amelia Island Fernandina Restoration Foundation and Bureau of Historic Preservation (Florida Department of State) to conduct survey of historic properties within corporate limits of Fernandina Beach; they are seeking community assistance.Contact Paul L. Weaver of Historic Property Associates of the Restoration Foundation. 17. Letter from Lynn Dresher to Superintendent Ken Morgan, National Park Service, St. Marys, GA, dated 1 January 1985. Letter confirms Supt. Morgan's agreement to speak at the April 8th meeting. Of particular interest are Plum Orchard and Cumberland Island. 18. Letter from K. O. Morgan confirming guest speaker. 19. Letter from Lynn Dresher to Mrs. Fernando C. Mencaccy thanking her for gift of $100. Dated 25 February 1985. 20. Details for upcoming trip to Jekyll Island including reservation information. |
