1. Minutes of Board of Trustees January 5, 1998. Slate of officers and board members presented. Suanne Thamm reported on historical markers (see 2018.353.058). Terry and Patty Spaulding have agreed to present a program in April on underwater archaeology (about their search for the San Miguel). 2. Minutes of Board of Trustees April 5, 1998. April program by Spauldings updated. 3. Minutes of Board of Trustees October 4th, 1998 at home of President Jerry Lancaster. Reports by Mary Agnes White, Judi Lowrey, Robert White. Update for Fourth Quarterly Meeting by Hal Belcher. Speakers will be Mr. Berninger and Mr. Ofeldt. Reverse side contains handwritten list "For Judi" of membership updates for 1999. 4. Contact print and 5X7 negative of Map of Fernandina 1857. 5. Clincher (Volume 3, Number 1, Winter 1998. Program: Sapelo Island: the history, culture and environmental problems of a barrier island. Presented by Billy Sullivan, Manager of Sapelo Island National Preserve. Article and pictures about fall program in which the history of the Rayonier and JSC Mills was discussed. Historical Society board members were listed. 6. List of 1998 Officers and Board of Directors for General Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society. Also handwritten list of Officers and Board including telephone numbers. Also included is a keyboarded list of 182 members with addresses. 7. Historical Society Memorandum from Suanne Thamm to Officers and Board Members on the subject of Historical Markers and dated 18 November 1997. Suanne reports on her contacts to and information obtained concerning intent and procedures for historical markers. She discusses concerns about how many historical markers Fernandina Beach should have. 8. Letter to Buddy Sullivan, Reserve Manager for National Estuarine Research Reserve at Sapelo Island, GA, from Jerry Lancaster, President, dated 23 January 1998. Lancaster thanks Sullivan for presenting a program about Sapelo Island. 9. Letter to E. Walker from Nita Bridges dated 26 January 1998 and confirming Walker's presenting a Low Country Boil and March 19 and 26. Also handwritten draft of this letter. 10. Miscellaneous materials concerning the March 19 Sapelo Tour including travel plans, lists of names and addresses of those planning to attend. Also included are brochures and information used in the planning. 11. Letter to Mr/Mrs Terry Spaulding from Nita Bridges dated 30 January 1998 confirming Spauldings' agreement to speak at April 13th meeting. Program title is The Search for the San Miguel. (The San Miguel was a Spanish Galleon). Also included are publicity information for the Islander Magazine and Fernandina Beach News Leader for 4/8/98. Second letter of confirmation to Mr. and Mrs. Spaulding dated 23 March 1998.. Handwritten notes for introduction to the program. Handwritten agenda for Historical Society actions. Three photocopies of a ship (San Miguel?). 12. Board meeting held 5 April 1998. Five pages of handwritten notes (on yellow lined paper) (probably by President Jerry Lancaster for Secretary Judi Lowery). (Note: not scanned.) 13. Minutes of the Board of Trustees July 1, 1998. July program will be on Post Offiice. Claude Haddock will speak on Post Office past; Jim Foster, Postmaster, will speak on new Sadler Road facility. Nita Bridges will speak on Centre Street Post Office history. Jerry Lancaster will recognize efforts of the Restoration Foundation for their work on the Post Office Lamp Post restoration. An on-site Ft. Clinch presentation was being planned; however, there are problems concerning this that have not been worked out with the Park Rangers. An alternative program possibly with shrimping industry may be possible. Robert White noted that Ernest Chaplin received a letter from Baptist Church requesting permission to move the Fourth Street Nuns House from Lot 3 to Lot 4 to allow more parking for the Baptist Church. The Board decided to wait to decide what action to take. Included are publicity notices for the upcoming meeting to be used by the Islander and the Fernandina Beach news Leader to advertise: The Postman Always Rings Twice. Handwritten drafts included. Letters from Nita Bridge to Mr. and Mrs. James Foster and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Haddock confirming dates and program agenda. Notes updating activities by Terry and Patty Spaulding in the search for the San Miguel. Membership notes for Judi. 14. Fort Clinch brochures and other information to be used in preparation for the October meeting. Include copies of pen and ink drawing of Fort Clinch and reenactors. 15. Letters from Judi Lowrey (1545 Philips Manor Road) dated 5 October 1998. Letters all concern upcoming Historical Society program to be held 12 October at the Atlantic Recreation Center. Program is titled: Amelia Island During the Civil War. Letters are addressed to: Mr. & Mrs. Frank Ofeldt, Mr. and Mrs. George Berninger, Mr. Bill Boydston, Also three letters dated 16 October thanking Frank Ofeldt and George Berninger for the presentation and Mr. Bill Boydston for his drawings. 16. Publicity for the Fall 1998 Quarterly Meeting of the Historical Society. Program will be "Amelia Island During the Civil War." Fall 1998 The Clincher (volume 3, number 4) and submissions to the Island Almanac and Around Town. Copy of October 1998 Island Almanac. 17. Four pages listing Name and Addresses for Society members. (not scanned). 18. a. November 11, 1998 Weekly Update: Postal lamps to be dedicated. b. Newspaper clipping from the News Leader. Envelope (empty) Lamppost Restoration Lighting November 12, 1998. c. Letter to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest W. Chaplin,Sr. from Judi Lowrey dated 17 November 1998 thanking the Chaplins for providing their gardens as the reception site for the Centre Street Post Office Lamp Dedication Ceremony. d. Program for the above ceremony includes Acknowledgments, Project Support, Placque, Reception, Program Welcome & Introduction, Invocation, Presentation of Proclamation, Remarks, Closing Remarks & Unveiling Marker, Lighting the Post Office Lamps, Reception, A little History.., The Restoration Foundation & The Historical Society. 19. Minutes of the Board of Trustees October 4th, 1998. List of attendees including Jerry Lancaster, Membership Update, Treasurer's Report, Fourth Quarterly Meeting Update, Committee Update, 1998 First Quarter Meeting (possibly by Suzanne Hardee on Major George Fairbanks or Winette Odom on Mary Martha Reid) or a program on the shrimping industry or other possibilities) New Business included Fort Clinch Grant Application and Historical Marker Committee. 20. Handwritten notes for the above minutes (#19). 21. Letter from President Jerry Lancaster to Mr. Clifton Maxwell, Manager of Fort Clinch State Park, dated 5 October 1998 stating the Historical Society's unanimous support of his request for the funding of a Historic Presentation Grant from State of Florida's Division of Historic Resources. (Typed letter, hand written draft and copy of Maxwell's letter to Jerome Lancaster requesting the support of the Historical Society.) 22. Publicity notices to Island Almanac and Around Town about meeting to be held 11 January 1999. Topic: Meet Major George Fairbanks (by Suzanne Davis Hardee) and Meet Mary Martha, Reid (by Winette Odom). 23. Letter to Honorable Donald R. Moran, Jr., Chief Judge, Fourth Judicial Circuit, Duval County Courthouse (Jacksonville, FL) dated 26 January 1998 from Jerry Lancaster, President.
