1. Program: Saint Peters Church Commemorating the One Hundred and Fourth Anniversary of the Founding of the present Saint Peters Episcopal Church (1858-1962). Includes brief history and order of service including leaders. Sponsored by the General Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society of Amelia Island. 2. Letter from Thomas G. Hall (Resolutions Committee) to Honorable Russell Nahm (City Manager) dated 14 March 1962. Hall requests that Nahm present Resolution adopted by the Clinch Historical Society. To be presented to the Commission. Resolution favors proposed housing of the Fernandina Beach Public Library and the proposed Museum in a single edifice. 3. Letter to William Galphin from Duncan L. Clinch (Miami 38, Fla.) thanking Galphin for arranging a luncheon and visit during his recent visit to Fernandina. 4. List of Members of the Historical Society who had paid by check as of 9 April 1962. 5. Newspaper clipping from the Florida Times-Union dated 12 March 1962 titled: Rites mark 104th Year of Church in Fernandina (refer to #1). 6. Carbon copy of a letter to Dr. Hale Smith (Department of Archaeology and Anthropology at Florida State University) from Carl Gillen, Supt. of Fort Clinch State Park, dated 13 October1962. Gillen thanks Smith for work the group did on a "dig" at the Fort San Carlos lot. Hopefully this work will lead to a restoration program of Old Town/Fernandina Beach. The Fernandina Beach News Leader (newspaper) reported on the dig. Letter copies to Walter A. Coldwell, Carlos Maxwell, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Bartels and Garland McNutt. 7. Treasures of Rollins College: a series supplementing the monthly Book-A-Year Club report describing some Treasures in the Mills Memorial Library. No. 6. Floridiana. Brochure The McKean Collection of the Louis C. Tiffany Arts. 8. Letter to Mr. Billy Galphin [Galphin], President Historical Society, from Carl Gering. Geringswald notes he is 86 years old and that he had spoken with Galphin "coming out of church." He recounts some of his life experiences and offers a letter of possible historical importance. 9. Galphin response to #8. 10. Letter to Dear Billy dated 16 April 1962 mentioning a photograph in the Fernandina paper and that Mr. Clinch may be coming back to Fernandina. 11. Newsclipping April 12, 1962 article by Robert W. Waste titled: Historical find may date back before Jesus birth. Skeleton found on property of Ernest Davis on Wolff Street examined by Dr. Smith who felt it may dated to around 1200 A.D. Smith spoke to the Historical Society about how anthropologists determine approximate age of historical objects. Dr. William Hair also raised the subject of the 9th flag which may have flown over Amelia Island. Flag was white silk with three stars of blue. 12. Newspaper clipping dated May 17, 1962: Historical Groups hears Marker slated for Ft. San Carlos; Dr. Smith slates credit course here in anthropology; Historical group hears interesting data from members. 13. Newspaper clippings from April 26, 1962 (?): Did you know that....Indians lived on Amelia Island from long before the time of Christ: Fun assured st Historical Society Wild Game Bar-B-Q; Various Society activities 14. Newspaper clipping from 16 March 1962. 15. Carbon copy of a letter to Dr. Hale G. Smith (head of Department of Anthropology and Archaeology, Florida State University). (first page only.) Refers to Smith's letter to Mrs. Jay Bartel (14 November 1962). Letter asks questions about the upcoming course that Hale is offering in Fernandina Beach during the upcoming summer session. . |
