MEMORANDUM. Lots 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, and10 -- Block 217 City of Fernandina, Fla. |
Object Name |
Memorandum |
Scope & Content |
This two-page memorandum, which accompanied Hal Belcher's essay on the real estate known as the Priory and the Bishop's School, lists the history of deeds for land transfers and recorded wills that transferred real property to heirs. It regards Lots 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10 in Block 217 on the north side of Broome St. between N. 11th St. and N. 12th St. It summarizes ownership transfers between 1867 and 1889 of property that housed, for a time, the Church Sisterhood School, part of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Florida. Belcher also reports that the Sisterhood School burned in 1881 or 1886, but did not cite a source of that information. He said the property "in later years" appeared on the tax rolls "and has been since sold for State, County and City Taxes." See also 2006.019.001 |
