Floyd (Secretary) to Jeffrey L. Howison of Jeff's Portable Welding thinking him for assistance in restoring the Ft. San Carlos Historical Marker. 4. Minutes of Regular Quarterly Meeting on 14 January 1980. Meeting opened by President Helen Litrico. Barbara Statable [Stidfole] gave museum report. Free membership granted to Jeff Hawison of Jeff's Portable Welding who restored the Fort San Carlos Historical Marker. Upcoming field trip to reenactment of Battle of Olustee. Howard Hanna introduced Dr. Barbara Purdy, Professor of Anthropology from University of Florida) on Paleo Indian period in Florida, "the Dig" on the Container Corporation site, and a maritime project that has found totem poles and canoes in muck of some rivers and marshes. 5. Letter from Secretary Carol Floyd dated 7 Mar. 1980 to Mrs. Cleo Galphin expressing sympathy over the loss of Bill. 8. Minutes of the Directors' Meeting held 9 March 1980. Possible future programs and field trips were discussed. 9. Letter from Mrs. Helen G. Litrico to Dr. Barbara A. Purdy dated 9 March 1980 discussing George T. Davis' being a representative to the conference in the area of maritime research. 10. Letter from Samuel Proctor about a conference to be held by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and asking for names of local persons working in this area. 11. Letter from Mildred Frazier dated 2 May 1980 to Mrs. B. Litrico thanking the Historical Society for their help with the visitors from the Coastal Georgia Historical Society to Fernandina. 12. Letter from Mrs. Litrico to the Citizens of Fernandina Beach lamenting that the Historical Marker on McClure's Hill was stolen during the recent Shrimp Festival. The marker was unveiled 20 April 1958 to commemorate the Battle of Amelia on 13 September 1817. 13. Letter from Mrs. Litrico to Mildred Frazier (see #11) discussing the date for the Home Tour. 14. Newsletter promoting Oct. 6 meeting featuring John Martin of Russell and Axxon Engineers, Planners, & Architects, Inc. The firm is to conduct a port development feasibility study for Nassau County Ocean Highway and Port Authority. Board recommended 2-year terms 24. Letter to Mildred Frazier from Helen Litrico dated 8 Oct. 1980 confirming that historical society will be arriving by boat and will stop at Jekyll Island on the return trip. 25. Letter from Barbara Stidfole to Mr. Robert White dated 22 October 1980 acknowledging receipt of the City Charter that Mr. White had the responsibility to turn over to the Museum on behalf of Board of Directors. 30. Minutes of Regular Quarterly Meeting held 7 April 1980. Susan McCranie gave Museum update announcing formal membership drive for charter members. Rosanna Oliver introduced Marti Glaefke of The Smiling Fish Antique Shop who spoke on period furniture, primitive antiques and restoring antiques. 31. Minutes of the Regular Quarterly Meeting held 14 July 1980. Bob White reported that McClure's Hill marker which had been stolen during the Shrimp Festival weekend has been found by University of Florida campus police and will be returned to Fernandina. Program was Show and Tell; participants were Pat Cottrell, Leroy McKee, Claude Rucker, Ann Kavanaugh, Carol Croft, Howard Hanno, Helen Griffin, and Bob and Mary Agnes White. 32. Minutes of Regular Quarterly Meeting held 6 October 1980. Susan McCrae gave museum update: Victorian era parlor will be set up. Charter membership drive ends November 30. All officer and board members of 1980 agreed to serve for 1981. Program introduced by President Litrico. John Martin and Jim Gibson of Russell and Axon Engineers, Planners, and Architects, Inc. reported on a port development feasibility study they are conducting for the Nassau County Ocean Highway and Port Authority. 33. Flyer advertising the April meeting: All you wanted to know about antiques to be held 7 April at First Presbyterian Church. Speaker will be Marta (Marti) Glaefke, a restorer of antique furniture. Members of Coastal Georgia Historical Society will visit Fernandina on 26 April. Bob White appointed Chairman of a committee to develop the ninth State marker which will be a monument for the grave of Mary Martha Reid who is buried in the Episcopal Cemetery on N. 8th Street. 36. Also included was notice that McClure's Hill marker has been found by University of Florida campus police. Helen Litrico is collecting funny stories about the Palace. 38. Handwritten note from Cleo Galphin to the Society dated 1 August 1980 giving thanks for her being given a life membership as a tribute to Bill Galphin 39. Information about a 4 star fun trip to see new sights in St. Augustine. This was for an upcoming field trip on Sunday, 10 August. 40. The Fall 1930 edition of The official Newsletter of the Eight Flags Museum of Nassau County: The Flagstaff. Written by Barbara Stidfole and noting opening of two new exhibits and encouraging charter memberships as well as presenting Dena Snodgrass's comments on Oglethorpe on Amelia. 41. Letter from Mary Agnes White to Heart of Charleston Motor Inn (Nell Mixon) confirming reservation of 27 rooms for March 21 to 22. 42. Photocopy of News-Leader article titled Nassau Courthouse Wasn't Always On Amelia Island. Dated 6 August 1980.Written by Mary Jane Cushman. Courthouse is featured in an exhibit at The Eight Flags Museum of Nassau County located at corner of 3rd and Cedar. 43. Detailed report on McClure's Hill historical marker which was stolen duirng Shrimp Festival weekend. Report of April 12 procession for laying of cornerstone of Nassau County new courthouse. |
