This document concerns the invasion and occupation of Amelia Island by Gregor MacGregor [sic] and Luis Aury. Documents and letters concerning this occupation dated from 7 July 1816 to Jan. 1818 are included. President Jame Monroe provided the introduction, denying that the United States had anything to do with General MacGregor's invasion of Amelia Island. John Quincy Adams as Secretary of State wrote two of the letters. |
