Nassau County Leader Friday, March 13, 1925 In the story titled Campbell Given $150.00 by Jury condemnation Suit regarding road right-of-way. The story is Mr. Campbell was demanding $1000.00 for the right-of-Way amounting to about 10 acres, which the county commissioners felt was unreasonable. This was in order to make State Road number 3 across Nassau County. (Top of page 1) In the Column titled "Keystone Arrivals" There is a column in the newspaper that list of people arriving at the Keystone Hotel and where they are coming from listed in the Newspaper. (Page 1) In the story titled "Postmaster Roux Complimented Fed. BLDG." it mentions that H.M. Franks, of Washington D.C., inspector of Federal buildings used to be stationed in Fernandina during The Great War or World War I as a lieutenant in charge of the naval reserve forces. It mentions that he came on this trip to inspect Uncle Sam's 85 thousand dollar Federal buildings. (Page 1) In the story titled "Fernandina Should Make Effort for Band" it mentions the need for an instructor for a brass band. The purpose for a brass band being to be able to provide music for dances at the casino located at the beach. "Every time there is a celebration of any kind at Fernandina an outside band has to be provided at considerable cost." (Page 1) In the story titled "Mularkey Stock Sold for $2,680 on Monday" it says that the Jacksonville Adjustment Bureau had taken over Mularkey Brothers. The stock of goods was sold to the highest bidder on Monday to Morris Fishler, proprietor of the People's Store bidding $2,680.00 (page 1) In the story announcement for "Dance at St. Joseph's Saint Patrick's Night" it says at Saint Joseph's Hall on Tuesday March 17, 1925 there will be a "5 piece orchestra consisting of local talent." Admission to dance $1.00 a couple & 75 cents for a very young set. General admission for spectators, children and adults is 10 cents. Cold drinks on sale. (Page 1) on the top left column for "local and long distance Phone, 40"(page 2) In the left hand column it mentions a fact saying "In the last century over 850 million books have appeared and about 849,750,000 of the have also disappeared." (Page 2) In a article titled "Increase of Postal Rates on Third and Fourth Class Mail" It mentions that "picture post cards and much of 3rd and 4th class mail matter are effective under the new postal law signed by President Coolidge and to become active April 15, 1925. The rate of picture postal cards will be increased from 1 cent to 2 cents. All those formally placed under the fourth class ruling will be come under the third class ruling. (Page 3) -Obituary for D.T. Haddock, SR. of Kings Ferry. Born November 1, 1840 and He passed away on February 20, 1925. He was a Veteran of the American Civil War. Was an active member of Ephesus Baptist Church. (page 4) Page 4 contains several circuit court notices. - There is a story how Julius Williams who was colored drowned in the afternoon of Sunday, March 8, 1925 in the Saint Marys river. He fell off of a boat crossing the Saint Marys river. The body was caught in a shrimp net in the Bell River on Wednesday, March 11, 1925 and brought back to Fernandina. (page 5) - The bottom of the paper has a city of Fernandina's financial report on the cities spending for two months from February 1925 (bottom of page 5) -It says Mr. & Mrs. Everett Mizel, Mrs. D.G. Humphreys, and Miss. Fannie Williams were among the people who attended Dr. C. H. Frink funeral services in Jacksonville on Wednesday, March 11, 1925. (page 6) - There is notice saying "Alfred Corte has moved his plumbing shop from the Island City Garage building to the room in the rear of Hailee & Ferreira's real estate office, where he has more room and is preparing to expand his buisness." (Page 6) Some of the advertisements included in this paper include the following -J. Geo Suhrer's jeweler and druggist phone 172 Colgate & CO's Coleo Soap (top of page 1 - Wass' Drug Store Phone 4 (page 1) - Fernandina Lumber Company Phone 59 (page 1) In the advertisement it mentions even with the "recent fire loss did not destroy this stock." - Dr. King's new discovery for coughs (page 2) -Island City Market located at Center and 3rd streets (page 2) -Home Building and Loan Company located at 205 East Adams street, Jacksonville, Florida. Phone number 2037 (page 2) - Rex Theatre a play presented by the American Legion titled "A Soldier's Reverie" with seamen, ex-soldiers, and sailors taking part on Friday March 20, 1925 It is promoting the films - Ashes of Vengeance (1923) directed by Frank William George Lloyd staring Norma Talmadge and Conway Tearle - Daddy (1923) with Jackie Cohan - Chautauqua (page 2) - Dr. Geo. L. Dickerson Rectal and Pelvic specialist 123 1/2 Main Street Syrne building, Jacksonville, Florida (page 2) - Fernandina Contracting Company for General repairs, plumbing, Tinning, and Roofing Box 46, Fernandina (page 2) -Wolff & Company Real Estate located North 4th Street Opposite of Post Office Post Office Box 432 (page 2) - Buick showing sealed Chassis Medlin-Peacock Buick Company, Jacksonville, Florida It shows an illustration of a chassis to promote that they are sealed from dirt and wear. (Page 3) - Lasserre Motor Company phone 141, Fernandina for used cars (page 3) - Cardui The Woman's Tonic (bottom page 3) - New Dixie Restaurant it is a sea food dinner located at Center Street between Front and Second Streets opened up on Sunday March 1, 1925. (Page 3) - Dr. Bell's The Original Pin-Tar-Honey for coughs due to colds (Page 4) - Castoria (top right on page 4) - Roger & Jones for dyeing and cleaning located at 611 Main Street, Jacksonville, Florida (page 4) - The Partin Shoe Company promotes some new products and thir prices (top of page 5) - Radcliffe Chautauqua Washington D.C. 1925 musical stage show. It shows publicity photos of the play in Fernandina between March 21-24 (top right page 5) - Wrigley's spearmint. The advertisment shows a boy, wrigleys spearmint gum with the old gum arrow mascot. It is trying to promote parents to give them Wrigley's gum to keep their teeth white. (page 5) - Tutt's Pills (page 5) - There is a job posted saying "$10,000,000 Company wants man to sell Watkins Home Necessities in Fernandina. Income $35-$50 weekly. Experience unneccessary." (page 5) - Matthew Haywood for cleaning and pressing located on North 3rd street between Center and Alachua streets. (page 6) - There is a advertisment saying "you should see the Neck Ties at Partin's. They don't wrinkle" (page 6) - There is a add saying "Shop for the Kiddies at the Gift Shop" Rompers and Pantie dresses for little folks from 2 to 6 years old Phone 223 (page 6) - Roger & Jones located at Main street in Jacksonville for dyeing and cleaning. zit says "we prepay parcel postage on returning." (page 6) - J. A. Slawter from Callahan is promoting that they are selling seeded sweet potatoes. (page 6) - There is a sale at Lasserre Motor Company of "14 head young oxen and 2 log carts completly equipped for logging. Price reasonable. Phone number 141. (page 6) - There is a advertisment saying "Morris Fishler buys out Mularkey Bros. store. Through the Jacksonville Adjustment Bereau, and will offer at sacrifice, wholesale or retail, whole or a part of the entire stock fixtures." (page 6) - Horsey's Drug Store phone number 22. It is protomting ways to get ride of pests (bottom left page 6) - Island City Garage under new management for repairs. Phone number 70.
