McArthur; John E. Williams. 2. Letter from W. N. Galphin, President, to Dr. Rembert W. Patrick, Chairman of Department of History, College of Arts and Sciences, University of Florida, dated 18 September 1957. Galphin offers thanks for wording for the proposed marker for McClure's Hill. Work on the marker is proceeding. Mrs. A. G. McArthur will be planning a program at the time of the marker's dedication. 3. Begins and ends at Atlantic Avenue (Centre Street). Includes Light House, Fort Clinch, Reads Mill, Old Pilot Station, City Gates of Old Town, Fort San Carlos, Bosque Bello Cemetery, McClures Hill, Episcopal Cemetery and Church, Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, Angel Davis Home, Nassau County Court House, Florida National Bank, U. S. Post Office, Old Swann Buildings, Sahlman, Catholic Church, Palace Bar, Welcome Station, City Hall and Fire Station, Lockwoods Drug Store, Allan's, Hotel Egmont, Fairbanks Home, Masonic Building with Library, Marconi Wireless Station, Indian Mound on School grounds. 5. Carbon copy to Galphin of letter to Salem Foundry & Machine Works, Salem, Virginia, from Secretary of State, State of Florida date 16 December 1957. Letter enclosures show Florida State Seal and replica of the Seal in color. 6. Carbon copy of letter from Dena Snodgrass, President of Florida Historical Society dated 8 January 1957 to Colonel Bahr, The District Engineer, Corps of Engineers, U. S. Army, Savannah, Georgia. Letter asks that the Corps recognize the importance of the value of the "ancient" vessel they are currently raising from the harbor at Fernandina Beach, Florida. |
