Born one month after the death of his uncle Erasmus Darwin Tracy, Jr., Porte was born to his single mother, Ada Byron. His grandfather, Erasmus Darwin Tracy, Sr., would raise him like a son. He would serve as a guard at Camp Perry, a quarantine station, during a yellow fever outbreak. Porte would inherit the Tracy home at Traders Hill when his mother passed away, and would live there his entire life. At age 49, he would marry 19-year-old Minnie Haddock, and would have four daughters with her. Porte would pass away at the age of 77 on April 9, 1943, leaving behind his wife Minnie and their four daughters. He is buried at the Traders Hill Cemetary. |
