Ground and polished celt of non-local fine grained basalt. Apparent battering wear on poll end (opposite of bit end) suggests use as a chisel. Similar to an adze, hoe, or axe, a celt was a polished stone tool used for felling trees and woodworking.

Ground stone celtiform fragment of non-local fine grained basalt. The fragment is fractured along the curved edge and at the midpoint of what was probably a stem. These fractures do not appear to be the result of use-wear. The object may have served a ceremonial function.
