Description |
Excavation of fire hydrant from northwest corner of Beech and Sixth Streets. Photo appeared in Fernandina Beach News-Leader (page 2A) on September 9, 1992. Comments from Hal Belcher's research: ...a peculiar hydrant in that it only had two outlets and they were both the same size (2"). ....writing around the collar on the top reads: "R.D.Woods & Co. Phila., Mathews Pat. Nov. 16, 1869. Reg'sd FFD Nov. 28, '84". Mr. Belcher consulted the Sanborn Maps and concluded "that the water system was installed after 1884 and before 1891 - fits very nicely with the "88" mark of our hydrant." |
