This photo album of Nancy Downes Seibert was donated to the Amelia Island Museum of History in 2019. Nancy, born in 1891, was the youngest daughter of Robert Henry Downes, Sr. Robert was born on Cumberland Island in 1856 and spent most of his adult life in Fernandina (Old Town) as a port pilot. He married Lucretia Mann in 1882 and they had three children: Two daughters, Nancy Downes Seibert and Mildred Downes Courter, and a son, Robert Downes, Jr. Nancy married William Seibert and had a son William, Jr. William, Jr. married Jean Lydiard and had two sons, John, born in 1946, and Robert, born in 1950. Mrs Robert (Loree) Seibert, who inherited these albums upon the death of her husband Robert, donated them to the Museum. Nancy, the creator of the albums, was very artistic and worked as a milner for Cohen Brothers in Jacksonville. In retirement, she lived at 221 North Third Street. She is buried in the old section of Bosque Bello. Her cousins Harry Downes Johnson and Margaret Johnson Stewart are in several of the photos. Photcopies of all pages of the album are archived with the original album. |
