Description |
Image #1: "Trimmed-up Palms and Oleanders give Adequate View of Approaching Traffic" on Atlantic Avenue from North 17th Street. Note attached by City Manager Edmund W. Meisenhelder III: This picture was taken in mid-March 1948, over the hood of a car that was about to enter Atlantic Avenue from North 17th Street (the Rutishauser's corner). Note that driver can now see west on Atlantic Avenue for more than 2 blocks. Note also that the car which is seen approaching here could not have been seen at this point before the trimming. Although trimming oleanders high may not leave as beautiful a result as training them low and bushy, safety considerations require that they be so trimed. Image #2: (Before) "Untrimmed Palms and Oleanders are a Traffic Hazard". This picture was taken early in March 1948, over the hood of a car that was about to enter Atlantic Avenue from North 17th Street (Rutishauser's corner). Note that the driver is unable to see west on Atlantic Avenue more than 1/2 block. (note by Edmund W. Meisenhelder III, City Manager). |
