Description |
A diorama or model made out of wood depicting a blacksmith's operation. The scene includes a hut, tools, a forge, and a blacksmith putting a shoe on a horse. It is a very detailed work. During a recent visit to the Museum, Cindy Moore, (who lived in the museum building with her parents when it was the Nassau County Jail and her father was the Jailer) indicated that this probably was the work of an inmate in the Nassau County Jail dating from the 1960's or 1970's. She indicated the inmate may have been a federal prisoner held in the County Jail for protection, etc. She also indicated that there was a cover wagon model from the same prisoner that had made its way into private hands. There is no way for us to verify the specifics but it seems reasonable to assume that the diorama was in fact made by a prisoner. |
