Cannonball |
Description |
A Spanish cast-iron cannonball, weighing 15.46 pounds and 4.71 inches in diameter. The donors, Philip and Janet Dignan, 718 Amelia Circle, Fernandina Beach, found the rusting projectile in their backyard. Hal Belcher researched the cannonball for the Museum and determined that the cannonball's trajectory started at Fort San Carlos, flew over McClure's Hill and landed on Lot 5 of Highland Oaks Subdivision in the Dignan's backyard. It is conjectured that the cannonball could have been fired by Jared Irwin in September, 1817. |
