Doll with cloth body and porcelain apendages in wooden box; Doll, named "Meta Rivers", came from the Fairbanks house in Fernandina and belonged to Sarah Catherine Fairbanks, born February 11, 1858 in St. Augustine, Florida. She was the daughter of Major George Fairbanks and Sarah Wright Fairbanks. The grandaughter of Sarah Catherine Faribanks, Mrs. Jane McCollum, donated Meta and recalls admiring and imagining stories about the doll during her childhood. In addition to the doll, is a copy of the letter Mrs. McCollum wrote to the museum about the doll's history. |
