Description |
50-1890s era Gem Concert Roller Organ Cob Rollers These rollers are inserted in the Gem player which allow it to make music by making sounds when the pins strike the sound plates. Rollers Organs are copyrighted July 14, 1885, and Gems appear from the late 1880's through the late 1920's. The Autophone Co., Ithaca, New York began producing hand-cranked roller reed organs in 1885. Note: John Everett, who owned this machine, is a descendant of the infamous English Indian hunter John Palmer who led several raids on the Spanish to burn down St Augustine. He lost his head after the last, failed raid. There are records of John Palmer fighting the Spanish on Amelia Island, and John Everett believes that he might very well have chased them through his backyard — present day Ocean Village south of the Ritz. |
