"May 10th 1899 Dear "baby buntin" Weren't you surprised to get a letter from your little nephew? He was born yesterday at eight o'clock in the morning, and weighed ten pounds. He is a pretty little fellow, and as good as he can be. He is named Lawrence, after his papa, and looks like him. Evelyn is well. He whines up stairs, and the pappy whines down stairs, and they both sound alike. Did I tell you little Lou Borne fell off their fence and broke his arm? He is getting all right now though. I expect Larry will be home just about the time you will, or a little before. I know you will be glad to see him. With Larry and the baby and the puppy, it will keep you from missing your dear little Tallahassee cousins so much. You must give them all my love and a kiss. Whit Hillyer died in G'ville of Typhoid Pneumonia last week. They buried him here, and had the most lovely flowers I ever saw. When you come home, if any of cousin Ruby's friends have any Easter-lily bulbs to spare bring me some, and any cuttings. What you can get that will grow. There is no news at all so with much love to all and hoping Col. Chipley will be elected. I remain Your devoted Mother |
