The schoolhouse building was constructed in 1886 by the Nassau County Public School District and designed by noted architect Robert Sands Schuyler. Other Schuyler properties surviving in Fernandina Beach today include St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, the Fairbanks House, the Hirth House, and the Tabby House.
