    This collection of 9 photographs show the damage to Amelia Island from the impact of the 1898 hurricane called the Great Storm. On October 2, 1898 the Great Storm made landfall on Cumberland Island as a category 4 hurricane. Winds are estimated to have been 135 mph encompassing a 20 mile radius, though the effects of the storm were felt along the GA coast. Brunswick and Darien GA were hit hard, with around a million dollars in damage.
